Zarafasaura oceanis (Vincent et al., 2011)

This is a formidable tooth from a large marine reptile. It was collected in the phosphate mines near Khourigba, Morocco. The conservation is excellent and has three repairs. They are very fragile teeth, difficult to extract entirely from the Plesiosaurs matrix, long-necked marine reptiles with four fins, appeared in the Triassic period and became extinct along with the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous period. They reached considerable size, some species were up to 17 meters long. This species of plesiosaurus has been redescribed from Plesiosaurus mauritanicus to Zarafasaura oceanis in a 2011 publication that can be found by clicking on the following link:
